Our project consists of removing old, undersized and unsafe playground equipment and to install playground equipment that not only offers an ADA compliant fall zone but also offers several all-inclusive play areas for people of all ages and abilities. This playground will also challenge those that are able to climb, run and jump while including friends that are unable.
In May of 2021, we removed the old equipment and installed our first Phase of the playground equipment. This equipment offers a climbing wall, a lollipop climber and a croquet climber as well as an inclusive storefront panel. The tower offers steps down to a winding slide. This section will have a 10" ADA compliant wood chip base with tuff timber border.
In the fall of 2022, we funded and ordered Phase 2 which offers a rope climber to another tower with a double race slide, another challenge climber as well as another ground level panel. This phase will also have an ADA compliant wood chip fall zone. This phase was delivered and installed in September 2023.
We are currently working to fund the 3rd Phase of the project to be installed in the spring/summer of 2024. This phase includes the all-inclusive features of the playground area. This includes a We-Saw See Saw with a rubberized fall zone below it as well as a rubberized surface under the Phase 1 equipment. We also plan on installing 3 large drums and a metallophone for everyone's musically enjoyment as well as some upper body exercise. Phase 3 also includes a molded bucket swing set for the swing area of the playground. This insures that kids of all abilities can swing, play and laugh together with their families.
This playground project is located in a city park where numerous community events occur for tourists and locals to attend and has boat access & a boardwalk to the Chain of 28 Lakes. The park is located in the heart of the city adjacent to the downtown area, historic society, bike/utv/snowmobile trails, Children's museum, and the Christmas lights display and kickoff. It is also adjacent to residential homes.
The park itself offers pickle ball courts, seasonal bathrooms, bandstand and a pavilion for visitors to picnic, entertain and relax all year long. This park is utilized in all four seasons. Eagle River's population may only be about 1,400 people but the community supports over 40,000 people during events, such as: Cranberry Fest, World Championship Snowmobile Derbies, Pond Hockey Tournament Weekend, Sausage Fest, and is the home to the famous Ice Castle. This park offers the most events from any other city park and offered the oldest & smallest playground for the families that visit.
We want this park to be the first all-inclusive park in the county to offer a safe, fun and inclusive experience for everyone. In 2022, we have partnered with the Lion's Club for our installs and have added a "+" aspect to our project. This + is to add a poured rubber surface to the newest playground equipment at the Lion's Gremban Park located behind City Hall. This will allow us to offer not one but two playgrounds in Eagle River that offer a more inclusive and accessible play area with a poured rubberized surface. We are so excited to add these valuable assets and resources to the community!
